Vision 2050 researcher Dr. K. Murat Güney joined Columbia Global Centers webinar on "Emergency Urbanism and Preventive Infrastructure" on December 1st, 2020 as guest speaker. In the webinar, academics from the American University of Beirut, and Columbia University New York, Amman and Rio de Janeiro discussed issues related to urban resilience such as earthquakes, pandemic as well as the current blast in the Beirut harbour. 
In his presentation and talk, Dr. Güney discussed recent analysis and vision regarding Istanbul’s earthquake resilience and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s preparations. Dr. Güney emphasized that urban resilience planning should not be capital-oriented but risk-oriented and argued that the right to live and the right to the city must be the first and foremost priority while preparing cities for disasters.
