Rural areas that cover Istanbul’s forest and agricultural areas have been threatened by northward expansion and mega projects since the 1980s. With this study, policies will be developed to protect these areas and preserve their rural identity by emphasizing agriculture, daily tourism and recreational capacity. In addition, solutions for the food needs of people from every walk of life will be proposed by providing affordable access to healthy and ecological agricultural products. In this context, policies such as alternative agriculture and tourism practices, organic agriculture, urban gardens, cooperative practices, consolidation policies, village markets, shortening food supply from producer to consumer and increasing the agricultural capacity of Istanbul will be discussed.
